In late May and early June 2026, IKI Academy, in collaboration with the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), organized an international academic seminar in Kazakhstan entitled "Knowledge Integration, Academic Excellence, and International Standards of Scholarly Publishing." The seminar was held in two of the country's leading academic centers - Astana and Almaty - bringing together university faculty members, researchers, graduate students, and young scholars interested in advancing academic research and publishing.
The first stage of the seminar took place on 28-29 May at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Astana, one of Kazakhstan's leading research universities, recognized for its significant contribution to higher education, scientific research, and international academic cooperation.
The second stage was held on 1-2 June at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty, the oldest and one of the largest universities in Kazakhstan, renowned for its strong academic traditions, research excellence, and extensive international partnerships.
The seminar focused on knowledge integration, contemporary approaches to academic research, scholarly writing, and improving the quality of research publications. Particular attention was given to international publication standards, research methodology, academic ethics, and interdisciplinary scholarship.
The seminar featured lectures by Dr. Gapur Oziev, Associate Professor and Director of IKI Academy; Prof. Ibrahim Zain; and Dr. Danial bin Mohd Yusof, Associate Professor. Their presentations covered a wide range of topics, including knowledge integration, the structure of academic writing, literature reviews, research questions and conceptual frameworks, as well as publishing in Scopus-indexed and other internationally recognized academic journals.
A substantial part of the seminar was devoted to practical training. Participants worked directly with academic papers, developed abstracts and introductions, explored the peer-review process, examined editorial standards of international journals, and discussed the most common reasons for manuscript rejection. These hands-on sessions enabled participants not only to gain a deeper understanding of international publishing requirements but also to apply the acquired knowledge in practice.
The seminar also addressed interdisciplinary research, the integration of Islamic and contemporary knowledge, and the role of ethics and philosophy in Islamic finance. These discussions highlighted the importance of comprehensive and interdisciplinary approaches to addressing contemporary academic challenges.
The event concluded with a discussion on future collaboration between IKI Academy, IIIT, and leading universities in Kazakhstan. Participants emphasized the practical value of the seminar and expressed their interest in continuing joint educational and research initiatives aimed at strengthening academic excellence and expanding international scholarly cooperation.
